Prague, Czech Praha, city, capital of the Czech Republic . Lying at the heart of Europe , it is one of the continent’s finest cities and the major Czech economic and cultural centre.
The Czech Republic is famous for: Prague , the historic center of Prague is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Castles, there are several hundreds of castles, chateaus, and mansions in Czechia.
Prague became the capital of independent Czechoslovakia after the fall of the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1918. After the war, Czechoslovakia was re-established as an independent state, and Sudeten Germans were thrown out and sent back to Germany and Austria.
1. Prague is a 3D architecture textbook. Romanesque chapels and cellars, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque palaces and gardens, worldly Art Nouveau buildings, and unique Cubist architecture make it a place with no parallel in the world.
Prague can be a very cheap city to visit but it can also be very expensive . It depends where you pull out your wallet. Because there are so many tourists and almost all of them visit the same few sites, it is just good business sense for a shop or restaurant owner to raise their prices and collect as much as they can.
Prague is also called the “City of a Hundred Spires”, based on a count by 19th century mathematician Bernard Bolzano; today’s count is estimated by the Prague Information Service at 500. Nicknames for Prague have also included: the Golden City, the Mother of Cities and the Heart of Europe .
The Czechs (Czech: Češi , pronounced [ˈtʃɛʃɪ]; singular masculine: Čech [ˈtʃɛx], singular feminine: Češka [ˈtʃɛʃka]), or the Czech people (Český lid), are a West Slavic ethnic group and a nation native to the Czech Republic in Central Europe, who share a common ancestry, culture, history, and Czech language.
The Czechs I know all look like Americans. They vary from dark hair and hazel/brown eyes- but the typical Czech I think is more nordic looking . I think this type definitely have prominent high cheekbones, and more tend to have longer pointed noses. And fuller lips with a wider mouth.
In the Czech Republic , the average household net-adjusted disposable income per capita is USD 21 453 a year, lower than the OECD average of USD 33 604 a year. But there is a considerable gap between the richest and poorest – the top 20% of the population earn nearly four times as much as the bottom 20%.
The rate of violent crime is low and most areas of Prague are safe to walk around even after dark. Be careful on Wenceslas Square. It is usually packed with tourists and the crowds make things easy for pickpockets. There have also been cases of trusting “love-seekers” being robbed of all their money at night .
The best times to visit Prague are the spring and early fall when the weather is mild and there are fewer crowds . Because of the city’s generally chilly climate, the warmer summer months (average high temperatures hover in the low to mid-70s) see the largest influx of tourists – which means higher hotel rates.
The first Allied aircraft to fly over Prague was a single bomber of the French Air Force in April 1940, but it dropped propaganda leaflets, not bombs . The raids were used for anti-American propaganda purposes, both by the Nazis and the subsequent Communist regime in Czechoslovakia.
The historical center of Prague is very compact, bounded on three sides by a wide loop of the river. The historical sights are very well preserved and that is also because of the fact that Prague was not bombed as much as other cities of Europe.
The Czech Republic is a member country of the EU since May 1, 2004 with its geographic size of 78,868 km², and population number 10,538,275, as per 2015. Czechs comprise 2.1% of the total EU population. Its capital is Prague and the official language is Czech.
As the ‘ City of a Thousand Spires’, Prague is one of Europe’s architectural gems. From Gothic and Baroque to Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles, the city has been an important UNESCO World Heritage Site which attracts more and more tourists each year.
