Source: Vietnamese immigrants began settling in Czechoslovakia during the Communist period, when they were invited as guest workers by the Czechoslovak government. Migration was encouraged by the Vietnamese authorities, with the intention that the migrants would return with skills and training.

The United States is the top destination for Vietnamese migrants , followed by Australia (with 238,000 Vietnamese immigrants), Canada (192,000), and France (128,000), according to mid-2017 estimates by the United Nations Population Division.
There have been estimates of at least 22,000 Vietnamese -born people living in England and Wales, 60% of whom reside in London.

The most up-to-date figures show that there are 136,460 Chinese citizens in Germany, up from approximately 120,000 just two years ago. While this amount can fluctuate due to the high numbers of Chinese who study in Germany, it illustrates how popular Germany is for many Chinese.
By far, California had the largest concentration of Vietnamese by state, 581,946, followed by Texas (210,913), Washington (66,575), Florida (58,470), and Virginia (53,529).
Over one-quarter of employed Vietnamese immigrant men worked in manufacturing, installation, and repair occupations . More than one-third of employed Vietnamese immigrant women worked in services. Three in 10 Vietnamese immigrants lived in poverty in 2008, lower than among the foreign born overall.
They compose 21% of the island’s foreign workers. 42% work in Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City.
